Geography Lesson

During my visit to the center, I participated in a geography class with the group. I was able to help the teacher Julie pass out papers and help the students with pointing out places on the map. They were being taught about the different directions, and were given real life situations to try and find different locations, such as China or Greece. I really enjoyed meeting and helping the participants. I was able to create connections with them, and most of them had really interesting stories as to what they wanted to do with their lives. In my first post, I shared that TASC was a goal driven program, and I was able to hear some of the goals, which included traveling, going to school, and being able to save money. I feel that this program has a lot to offer to me about diversity.

First Meeting

On Tuesday February 12th, I went to TASC, to meet with the organization, and set up times that I could come in to help. I was really excited to see that they are not just an adult care center, which I have volunteered for in the past, but they were goal oriented in the sense that t they want the participants to be in the program, while having goals as to what they want to accomplish in life. For example, if one of them wishes to go to college, in the near or distant future, they provide an environment that make the participant responsible for things, that will help them in their future. I am extremely excited to start volunteering there! I am going in, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1pm-3pm.
